Pischer, of 1, 103.52. Sports digest Olympic boycotters may face sanctions CALGARY, Alberta Nations that boycott the 1988 Summer Olympics might be denied shares of television rights 1 fees, International Olympic Committee spokeswoman Michele Verdier announced Sunday. The measure, approved by the IOC Executive Board in Calgary, was presented as a resolution by a special IOC commission. The group, comprised of IOC vice presidents, was formed to explore possible sanctions against nations that boycott future Olympic Games. The commission recommends that TV revenue, of which the IOC receives just 10 percent, "will be distributed solely to those (national Olympic committees) who take part," according to a written statement released 1 Sunday night.

There had been speculation the IOC would act more sternly to reduce boycotts after six out of 167 member nations said they will not attend the 1988 Games in Seoul, South Korea, including Cuba and North Korea. Talk had centered on banning boycotters from future Games. Tate, gas make explosive pair STAFFORD, England Frank Tate said he went out and took Tony Sibson's breath away. But the International Boxing Federation middleweight champion didn't count on some help from the challengers' fans, who filled the atmosphere with gas. Tate (22-0-0) sent Sibson into retirement with a smashing right hand that knocked out the Briton near the end of round 10 of a scheduled 12-rounder.

Some of Sibson's followers were involved in violent scenes before the fight. Some fans tried to gatecrash without tickets and exploded gas canisters as they fought with security officials. The fight was held up 10 minutes to allow the gas in the air to clear, and when it began, Tate showed his authority. Football Only quarterback John Elway and linebacker Karl Mecklenburg will be exempt from trade talks with other NFL teams during the off-season, according to Denver Bronco coach Dan Reeves.
